Outreach Volunteer (Bradford)

Simon on the Streets are looking for a reliable volunteer(s) to accompany a full time support worker during an evening outreach session. This targeted outreach will involve engaging with existing and potential service users in and around Bradford City Centre.  The purpose of this role is to develop trusting relationships with vulnerable individuals through providing emotional and practical support.

Main responsibilities include:

- Developing a constructive relationship with service users and working with them to help improve their current situation
- Sign posting service users to other agencies that can assist them and accompanying them to appointments where appropriate
- Identifying other opportunities to provide support to service users as appropriate

Time Commitment:

2 to 3 hours every week on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening.

Desirable Skills:

- Ability to demonstrate a compassionate and empathetic attitude
- Willingness to work within the ethos of Simon On The Streets
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team

Training and Support:

- Induction and training provided by Simon on the Streets
- Volunteer coordinator to support you in your role
- On-going supervision and support
- Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed e.g. travel to Bradford

Volunteer Community Advocates

Do you fancy a challenge whilst helping in your local community?

Simon on the Streets is a community based charity which depends heavily on the support of its community.  We are currently searching for passionate and enthusiastic individuals to form and lead local fundraising groups around West Yorkshire. Teams of volunteer fundraisers will meet up on a regular basis to think of fun and interesting ways to raise funds and awareness for the charity. The role is flexible, requiring a small-time commitment of one to two evenings a month and doesn’t require any previous volunteering experience.

The role of a volunteer community advocate will depend on your personal preferences; however, the main duties of the role include activities such as:

- Attending and, if need be speaking at community fundraising events as a representative for Simon on the Streets
- Speaking to local community groups about our work and homelessness within West Yorkshire
- Promoting and supporting Simon on the Streets ran events and collections
- Attending volunteer community advocate meetings
- Running independent fundraisers within the community

We will support you in your role as a volunteer by offering you:

Volunteer Trustee

Simon on the Streets are looking for flexible and committed volunteers to join the charities board of trustees.

What does it mean to be a Trustee of Simon on the Streets?

We are a small independent charity that does rely on the Board of Trustees playing an active and engaging role. We do currently have a diverse Board of Trustees but we are looking to add skills and experience in the following areas:

- Experience of fund application writing and/or access to charitable foundations and grant funding
- Experience of charity fund-raising through events and other income streams
- Someone with a strong sense of the mission and values of the charity who can support in developing the culture and underpinning the ethos of the charity’s values and mission
- Some who has charitable sector experience specifically in relation to homelessness, adult mental health, substance abuse or any other area pertinent to the charity
- An individual with financial experience of financial reporting, forecasting and budgeting and contributing to the future strategy of the Charity
- Somebody with great social media skills who can support with our marketing and brand strategy
