This year, why not challenge your team to trek up a mountain for a good cause? After two years of working from home, social distancing and too many Zoom calls, a team challenge is the perfect way to rebuild and reconnect.
Your team’s challenge can also help those
in need. At Simon on the Streets, more and more people need our support. Homelessness
is on the rise and our team is out on the streets, offering emotional and
practical support to help break the cycle of homelessness.
The Snowdon challenge is the perfect team
building exercise that also gives back to your
local community. Let us tell you more about why it will benefit your company.
Why Snowdon?
Hiking the mighty summit of Snowdon is an adventure your team will never forget. At 1,085m high, Snowdon is the highest peak in Wales and England. Summiting this peak will reward you with wonderful views of the Snowdonia National Park.
Our Snowdon Starlight Trek
will take place on 3rd September 2022. Our guided ascent with qualified
mountain leaders will take you up Snowdon as the sun sets. As we head back down,
donning glowsticks and head torches, we’ll begin our descent in the dark, with
the stars as our guides. This 9-mile hike is the ultimate challenge for 2022.
Why it’s a great team building exercise
Snowdon is the perfect challenge for your team. It’ll give you a chance to get to know your colleagues better and will test your limits as a team. It’s a great escape from the office and the sense of achievement you’ll feel when you complete the hike is second to none!
Get to know the team better.
Hiking up Snowden as a team is the perfect opportunity to get to know your colleagues better. Presented with a new challenge, typical workplace hierarchies and relationships are quickly rearranged. That quiet colleague who lacks confidence in team meetings may suddenly turn out to be your most confident hiker, offering support to their colleagues. Putting your team in a new situation does wonders to boost confidence and get colleagues that wouldn't normally interact talking.
Escape the office.
After two years of home working alone, getting together as a team in a green environment will do wonders for boosting team morale. Exercise such as hiking is great for releasing endorphins - hormones that help reduce anxiety and have a positive effect on your mood. Studies have also found that walking in green spaces help us recover from ‘attention overload’ and the mental fatigue that comes with working constantly with computers. To summarise, hiking is great for your team’s mental wellbeing!
Test your physical and mental limits as a team.
Hiking as a team is a great opportunity to test your colleague’s ability to come together to take on a challenge. Summiting the highest peak in England and Wales on your own may feel impossible. But, as a team, you're there to support each other along the way, taking breaks and offering words of encouragement. You'll find that the task will be much easier to take on as a team then it ever would have been alone.
Celebrate your achievement together!
As you reach the summit of Snowdon, you can celebrate your achievement together. Nothing beats the elation of seeing the summit and getting that team selfie on the summit marker. After you descend, spend time as a team talking through the high and lows of the challenge, and reflecting on all you’ve achieved.
Climbing Snowdon is not only an incredible achievement, but it will
also help give people experiencing homelessness the support they need to turn
their lives around. Our Starlight Trek is a unique opportunity to take on the
challenge of Snowdon. To find out more and sign up, visit Simon’s Starlight Trek.
