  • 1 position in Leeds (LS12 2EJ) and 1 in Bradford.
  • Full time and part time available, with roles including some evening/early morning outreach.
  • £23,500 - £25,500 dependent on experience.

About Simon on the Streets 

We’re an independent charity in West Yorkshire, dedicated to providing support to those facing homelessness. We deliver outreach on the streets to those that are most vulnerable in Leeds and Bradford.

About the role

The role is for an Outreach Worker to deliver emotional and practical support to people who are experiencing homelessness or who are in unsafe accommodation.

You’ll deliver trauma-informed support on a one-to-one basis through daily outreach on the street, or in temporary accommodation.

You’ll befriend, signpost and advocate for our clients whilst increasing their confidence and addressing any unmet needs.

Key duties will include:

  • Identifying and engaging with entrenched rough sleepers to help them achieve their goals.
  • Keep accurate records of service activities and client outcomes to meet funder requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs and risk assessments to identify clients’ support needs.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with external agencies and advocate for clients.
  • Develop outcome-focused support plans and provide information, advice, and flexible support.
  • Manage a varied caseload, seek advice and support from senior staff as needed.
  • Accurately enter client details into a case management system and attend forums and fundraising activities as requested.
  • Participate in a minimum of one weekly outreach shift and complete other delegated tasks from the Team Leader

We’re keen to hear from a wide range of candidates, and as such the role is offered either part time (various hours considered) or full time.

About you

You’ll need to be physically fit, as you’ll be walking around different areas of the city on outreach during the day, and also on some evening and early morning sessions.

Our ideal candidate will also have the following:

  • Some experience of working with clients who are facing, or at risk of homelessness is an advantage.
  • A positive attitude and the desire to make a difference to people’s lives.
  • Confidence is important as you’ll be reaching out to multiple people each day.
  • Understanding is essential, especially in difficult situations.
  • Demonstrating empathy is crucial for this position.
  • The ability to demonstrate respect for other people’s decisions.
  • Capability to lead by example and a “can do” attitude.
  • Be hard working, with the ability to work accurately under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and prioritising skills with an ability to forward plan.
  • The ability to make decisions and use initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability and desire to work as a team player, working alongside others with integrity, positivity, and respect.
  • A flexible approach with a willingness to undertake varied tasks, sometimes at short notice.
  • Client-focused – meeting and exceeding our client’s needs.
