We’re so excited to say that our Little Sleep In is returning for a second year on Friday 7th May.
Last year’s Little Sleep In saw more than 80 residents and families camp out in their gardens and homes to raise almost £10,000 for us. This has gone a great way to help us to continue to support homeless and vulnerable people throughout Leeds, Bradford and Kirklees. During the pandemic, we ensured the most vulnerable had access to food and accommodation.
This year, the future is uncertain for people who are homeless and rough sleeping. Those who were temporarily accommodated during lockdown now face the unknown. We need your help to keep supporting them. That’s why we’re asking you to join us for a second Little Sleep In.
What is the Little Sleep In?
‘The Little Sleep In’ launched last year in place of our largest fundraising event, the Big Sleep Out. The Big Sleep Out is an annual event where people sleep outside together for one night. Due to Covid-19, we weren’t able to hold the Big Sleep Out last year.
As we are still unsure about the future of our Big Sleep Out we are hoping to encourage as many people as possible to join us for our Little Sleep In.
The Little Sleep In allows you to fundraise from your own homes. To take part, all you need to do is be in your own home, sleeping somewhere other than your own bed. You could pitch your tents in your garden, or build a den in your living room. Get as creative as you like!
How can I get Involved?
This year’s ‘Little Sleep In’ takes place on Friday 7th May 2021. To participate, download a fundraising pack. The pack contains decorative bunting, instructions for building a tent and guidance on creating a JustGiving page for sponsors.
How to Have a Great Time
First things first, get creative! We were overwhelmed last year by the creativity of our supporters who made dens, set up tents in their garden and decorated their living space!
Once you’ve set up your den, be sure to join us for the launch event, held on Zoom! We’ll send you a Zoom link the day before the Little Sleep In. If you don’t get one, please contact us. Our outreach workers will talk about the people your fundraising will help. We’ll also be playing some fun games!
Speaking of games, it’s a great idea to stock your den up with board games and activities. Perhaps you could do arts and crafts as a family, or get stuck into a really good board game. And, of course, snacks are a must for any little sleep in! Whether you buy them or bake them, yummy treats should be close at hand.
Make your night a success
Your fundraising pack has lots of tips for making the night a success. We recommend setting up a Just Giving page to make it easy for your friends and family to donate to you. Share your page on social media to encourage donations - you can use our fundraising pack to show people how their money will help the homeless.
Throughout the evening, share pictures and stories on Simon on the Streets’ Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages using the hashtag #LittleSleepIn. Show people what you’re doing for the night to encourage donations.
